Organics in Abundance

I recently purchased a lampwork recipe e-book from Jacqueline Parks aka Gems in Bloom, and have been enjoying making "organics" with her recipes.  It is amazing how the same glass can be used by so many lampworkers, and each one comes up with a different interpretation -  even if you try to make the beads like the samples that she shows, they never turn out the same.

All these beads were made with basically dark ivory, silver foil, and intense black.  Some of them have a base of a slightly different colour, but more or less all the same.

I was at the Downtown Nanaimo Farmers Market today, and it sure was windy.  I was really glad that my tent back was tied to the outside railing, and that I had weights on the ftont.  Now that the children are all back in school, I sure notice that the number of customers has dropped dramatically - however sales were about the same overall.  Tomorrow - another town, another market!

For Me

I decided to keep one of the "Organic Formations" for myself.  I have wire wrapped two of them in copper, and added a little danglie beach stone which I purchased from this Etsy shop.

Anyway - I am going to antique the copper and hang it from a lovely copper chain that I have.  I will only keep one, and the other will go into my stock for the upcoming Spring craft/markets that I will be attending.

I have also listed several more organics in my Etsy shop.

Organics

I have been having a lot of fun lately making what is known in the lampwork world as "organic" style beads.  I'm not sure how to define organics, other than to say that they are not flowers, trees, or any other type of decoration that is recognisable as "something" - hope that makes sense.

The photos show the front and back of each of three beads.  These beads can be found (sorry, were) on my Etsy.  However, I will be making more of them, as they are a great excersize for me, as I tend to be a bit anal about everything havng to be symmetrical, and have to work really hard when trying to make asymmetrical beads, necklaces, etc.

Organics

I really love organic style beads, but I seldom make them.  I met a lady this last weekend at the FVBS who makes the most incredible organic style beads -  Jacqueline Parkes of Gems in Bloom, check out her web site  http://www.gemsinbloom.com/ . (I hope the link works - I'm not very good at this copy and paste stuff).

These rounds came out of my kiln yesterday, and I'm quite pleased with them.  The large ones in the middle are hollow, and a lot of fun to make.  I think I will string them up into some fairly short necklaces with lots of other organic type beads, ie: ceramic, copper, gunmetal.  I'll post a picture if they work out.
